Letter to the editor: Be responsible

To the editor:

The Kansas Legislature seems bound and determined to once again cut taxes. I would like to see, this time, a prudent and thoughtful consideration of waiting for proper and diligent analysis of revenue data before pushing through poorly researched and conceived cuts. If indeed next year the trend of surplus revenue continues. THEN, after and ONLY after, the state has been found to meet its constitutional obligation to adequately fund public schools, the contributions to KPERs are completely up to date, and all cuts to higher education have been fully restored. Then if fiscally possible, roll back the half-cent state sales tax increase from a few years back (that was originally supposed to be temporary but made permanent) and once again, if fiscally possible, partially or completely cut the sales tax on food. Those are the kind of cuts I and I think probably a lot of Kansans would appreciate.
