To the editor:

If the recent news about an FBI informant within the Trump Campaign does not disturb you, then you might want to stop and remind yourself what country you live in. The DOJ and the FBI, under the Obama administration, seemed to think that it was OK to place an informant in the political campaign of President Trump. I listened with incredulity as former Director of National Intelligence, now CNN analyst, James Clapper lauded the idea of having an informant in the campaign if a counterintelligence operation was underway.

The counterintelligence operation to which he is referring is so dubious, and the argument for it is so tortuous, it defies belief that a right-thinking citizen could begin to defend it in the first place. In the United States of America, we have a rule of law. Under no circumstances can the end ever justify the means. We are not allowed to lie to “secret” courts in order to obtain surveillance warrants. We do not take hearsay evidence, three or four times removed, as justification to establish an investigation. And we sure as heck don’t place “spies” in the campaigns of our political opponents to surveil them during an election cycle!

These are the tactics of government leaders that we oppose and publicly condemn. The proponents of these reprehensible and corrupt tactics become no better than those from whom they have sworn to protect us. We do not bug and surveil our political opponents in America.
