Letter to the editor: Do the hard work

To the editor:

As many have taken to protest current immigration policy, celebrities and prominent politicians; it would be good to remind them who put these policies in place to begin with: the most previous administration, as a deterrent to such immigration. The same politicians loudly decrying its implementation, approved it.

It’s time to hold them accountable for their years of failure to fix immigration problems, instead of putting on temporary band-aids. Whether it’s issues with this policy, marijuana enforcement, gun control or other current actions, and there are many to take issue with; remember that the people who are supposed to represent us in Washington created those policies long before the current administration took office. Our troubles are not unique. The mayor of Toronto says his city can take no more immigrants, Italy recently closed its ports to immigrants, and Germany struggles with it.

Both sides of the aisle have been more concerned about rewarding and keeping their kingdoms/fiefdoms than doing their job, the hard work it takes to fix the problems. Instead of being tied to the candidate that the “party” puts forth, we should all look for someone who will focus on the needs of the people rather than their re-election and placating their mega-donors. Remember: Whether it’s Steyer, Soros, the NEA, labor, corporations or Koch, they are not giving out millions because they are altruistic.
