To the editor:

The family and friends of Deborah Bretthauer (a Lawrence resident who died in December 2015) wish to thank all who supported the effort and donated funds to create a forever-lasting Deborah Bretthauer Memorial Scholarship Fund at Neosho County Community College, where Deborah taught Certified Nursing Assistant courses for 18 years. Scholarships will be awarded periodically to aspiring CNAs wanting to dedicate their skills, as Deborah did, to making a difference by helping others.

A special thank you to Claudia Christiansen, executive director at NCCC, for her cooperation and support that helped make the Scholarship Fund come together as a continual endowment in Deborah’s honor.

Your generosity reminded us that good things can prevail over tragedy. Thanks to you, Deborah’s values and dedication to helping others will live on through the training of skilled CNAs at Neosho County Community College.
