A teenager showed up at Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning with a gunshot wound that he allegedly received after a dispute over fireworks, police said.

Police were dispatched to the hospital about 12:50 a.m. regarding the shooting, Sgt. Amy Rhoads, of the Lawrence Police Department, said in an email response to the Journal-World.

A 17-year-old had been brought to the hospital by a private vehicle with injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening, Rhoads said.

She said the shooting had occurred in an apartment complex parking lot in the 2500 block of West 31st Street, where an unknown male fired a gun into a vehicle occupied by the teen and three other people. The shooting followed a dispute involving fireworks, Rhoads said, though she declined to elaborate, citing the ongoing investigation.

No arrests had been made Thursday afternoon. The department asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785-843-TIPS (8477).
