A Kansas City, Mo., man has been charged with commercial sexual exploitation of a child in Douglas County.

Jesus Cervantes Garcia, 34, hired a 16-year-old to engage in sex or a sex act, by giving or agreeing to give the victim or someone else something of value in exchange, the criminal complaint against Garcia alleges. The crime allegedly occurred Oct. 6, 2017.

Garcia was arrested and made his first appearance in Douglas County District Court last week, according to jail and court records. He’s being held on $50,000 bond.

The charges against Garcia were filed April 10, according to the complaint, but they were not publicly available until after he appeared in court. On his application for an appointed attorney filed after his arrest, Garcia listed a Kansas City, Mo., address, though the criminal complaint lists his address as Kansas City, Kan.

The Journal-World requested Garcia’s mugshot from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office but did not immediately receive an answer to whether it would be released.
