Letter to the editor: Drawing the line

October 13, 2017

To the editor:

Where do we draw the line?

Where do we draw the line between tolerance and indoctrination?

The library has many programs throughout the year that bring attention to the LGBT cause. The most recent one is an event where a man dresses up like a woman and reads a book to little children. Is this promoting tolerance or is it indoctrinating our children into something that many find odd and others describe as just downright wrong?

Needless to say, I will not be taking my children to this event. But I am looking forward to the day when I see the library programs include at least one faithful-monogamous-heterosexual-lifestyle event to compliment every LGBT event.

You can call me a bigot or a homophobe. But I prefer to simply be called “Family Man.”

Dear Family Man, I and my NUMEROUS extended families, friends and clients WORLDWIDE want you to know that we completely acknowledge and agree with your valid and totally understandable point of view. Thank you for speaking up and thank you once again to Fran Johnson for doing the same.

Liberals do not draw lines with their behavior.

Look how Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton adored Harvey Weinstein.

The letter is nonsense. These events are optional. Indoctrination is forced on people, and that's what some of you would do with your religion if you could. Thomas Paine had it right--all religions are human creations designed to "terrify and enslave" mankind.

Easy to find the quote and the source, just like it's easy to find the truth about Thomas Jefferson--he didn't believe in the resurrection of Jesus, but he respected the teachings.

On this board and the other one, in response to Fran J's tantrum, there's ignorance of and blatant disrespect for those teachings. You don't have to like LGBTQ people. You don't have to like people in drag.

But you should live and let live. Knock off the whining and the panicking and start behaving like you actually believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
