Letter to the editor: Example for coach

To the editor:

A Sept. 30 Journal-World article on page 1A reported that the Lawrence High School head football coach responded via letter to a student protest.

My question is what was his message? He took no stand. Compare with a page 1B article where an Air Force leader said: Racist cadets “need to get out.” Now that is clear. We know right where this leader stands on his students’ expected behavior. I would expect Coach Dirk Wedd to do the same. He might say, “I talked to my football players making it clear any form of hate will not be tolerated. I have asked for students participating in these hateful posts and comments to resign from the team.” When people in charge — coaches, principals, teachers, bosses — turn away from bullying, allowing injustice to continue . . . Shame on you.
