Letter to the editor: Our vulgar leader

November 27, 2017

To the editor:

President Trump made reference to a vulgar word for female genitalia and using hands to demonstrate, yet he is still in office?

Apparently at least a dozen women have put up allegations of sexual harassment by Trump, which is not hard to believe due to his own seemingly public disrespect for women and women’s rights.

In fact, the conservatives’ very public war on women and women’s rights is sexual harassment beyond belief.

Brock Masters 2 weeks, 3 days ago

Richard his comment happened decades ago and before he was in office. He was elected after the tape was shown so why would you expect it would result in his removal from office?

Instead of bashing the president and conservatives you should try to coexist and work with us on shared issues. For example, I think we should all demand that those who are on the list of settlements paid for sexual harassment cases be revealed and they be made to pay back the taxpayer money they used to cover up their misdeeds.

Keep in mind allegations are just that unless proven and past misdeeds should be considered in electing someone, but generally not enough to force them out of office. Now misdeeds while in office are a different story.

Paul Youk 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Trump made that comment in 2005, when he was 59 years old.

The substance of his comment basically describes the same sexual assault behavior he was accused of from several women--that he would randomly grab their genitalia when he got them alone (among other sexual behaviors/harassment).

He was accused, evidence of him bragging about such behavior came out, and millions of people shrugged and voted for him anyway. This speaks more about the moral turpitude and decay of contemporary conservatives and evangelicals than it does Trump's failings--anyone paying attention knew of his nefarious, crooked history anyway.

But you are right--he shouldn't be removed from office because of this horrible video that people like you shrugged away as meaningless (he just should have never been elected). He should be removed from office--and thrown in prison--because of his crimes and treasons with a foreign enemy that undermined the very core of our democracy. #LockHimUp

This LTE from a guy that supports Sanders is concerned what Trump said about women?

Seriously LTE?

WOW!

https://www.salon.com/2015/05/29/bernie_sanders_exposed_a_shocking_look_at_his_views_on_rape_and_violence_against_women/

In fact, the congenital Liberals like Spacey, Conyers, Weinstein, Rose, Franken, NPR leadership etc. etc. etc. very public war on women, rape accusations, and women’s rights is sexual harassment beyond belief.

Calvin Anders 2 weeks, 3 days ago

Wow Bob, that article you link to is quite the weird and incoherent attempt by the corporate left to smear Bernie. But it's a really odd play, because despite the reference to his obviously misguided and insensitive excerpt from Sanders' essay, the rest of the article seems to demonstrate a legislative record very supportive of change to address sexual assault. And you continue to draw false equivalence between radically different actions. Sanders speculates about rape fantasies of a hypothetical woman as part of a reflection on dysfunction in our culture. Trump brags about physically assaulting women by taking hold of their genitals. And Trump has multiple accusers indicating that he wasn't just lying about his attacks. We should also observe that most if not all of the names on your liberal offenders list have lost all support as their behavior has been revealed. But Trump and Moore seem to be given a pass by the right. Their horrendous and criminal behavior is ignored.

Bob Summers 2 weeks, 2 days ago

It is Salon No fake news with this Liberal out fit.

Gary Stussie 2 weeks, 2 days ago

Get use to it ... now that the racist card has been overplayed, 40 year old accusations will be the liberal go to position against from now on. This guy has been in the public eye for decades and only when he is up for a pivotal seat in the senate do they make accusations. The dozens of young women who have worked with and for Moore over those years all sing his praises. We all have seen what the Democratic party was willing to do to win!

Note: Latest Moore accuser ... as a lawyer Moore represented the accuser's Mother in mom's effort to get custody of the woman's child based upon her violent ways!

Glen Stovall 2 weeks, 3 days ago

"you should try to coexist"----with racism, Nazis, taking health care from millions, bigotry, making the wealthy even more rich, and having no moral values----no thanks

Brock Masters 2 weeks, 3 days ago

Hence why our country is so divided. Glen believes all conservatives are racist nazis. We all know this is not true but in Glen’s world it is and reason not to work together for a better country. Very sad for someone to be so full of hate that they can’t even consider coexisting with conservatives.

Glen Stovall 2 weeks, 3 days ago

Gosh! I must have missed your deeply held moral outrage against Trumps racism and bigotry, having Nazis (Gorka and Banon) and white nationalists in the White House, taking away healthcare from millions ---including kids, and opposing giving away the hard earned money from the middle and lower classes to the wealthy. If I missed any one of these please accept my apology.

Gary Stussie 2 weeks, 2 days ago

Didn't hear the outrage against President Obama as he paraded extremists and race hustlers through the White House. Get off the Nazis crap ... The 27 Nazis and 50 White Supremacists that got so much media attention for supporting Trump had to vote for somebody and it sure wasn't going to be Hillary. Get some new talking points.

After all that has come out about the Clintons, the DNC and the Hollywood establishment Richard is still whining about Hillary's loss. Do the Dems really think that the constant negative barrage against President Trump, name-calling of anyone that supports him, and do-nothing obstruction by Dems in office is going to win them voters in 2018. How about getting behind your President?

Well, all Democrats should work with Republicans (?) just as Republicans worked with Democrats (?) to gave an open fair public hearing ( Not ! ) to Obama's Supreme Court Pick ? .

Brock,....you been reading too many comic books from the far out right !......or maybe some Russian trolls .

But, partisan politics aren't allowed in Russia so what do trolls know ..........and our Partisan Republicans are out, as usual to enrich the richest, while fooling the vanishing middle class and doing away with the social safety net to pay for it all.......and they have 3 more years to destroy Social Security, Medicare, Consumer Protection ( Wells Fargoes revenge for being fined for creating fake credit card fraud ), The EPA,.....and on and on .

Unfortunately, the vanishing middle class don't realize that one major illness could put them into the public safety net, that they have voted so hard to destroy in their moment of not seeing the future clearly at the urging of the mindless blind politics of the Republican Party .

We have two parties in this country ( plus the Tea-Me Party ) ( and a lot of cynically confused drunks who would vote for anyone today ( next politician please ) who would promisse them the moon......who would then turn around and moon them........because they wouldn't know the difference.....they are out to lunch ! )

Gary Stussie 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Facebook thought for the day ... If Democrats thought for one minute that illegals were voting Republican, you'd see the Border Wall from Space!

Regarding compromise ... you can trace this obstruction back to Obama's 1st term. DEMs controlled Congress and did not even invite REPs to the meetings ... when REPs took back control they paid Obama back by obstructing. The DEMs have taken obstruction to an art-form but I am betting it is going to bite them in the hinnie!

Compromise is essential to Democracy. Today Pelosi and Schumer blew off the meeting with President Trump to discuss budge and tax reform.

Being forced to honor Navajo code talkers, who helped us to win WWII (something that Trump and his Nazi friends are mad about), Trump made sure they are in front of a portrait of Andrew Jackson, the Indian Killer. Then he insults a rep, who has Native ancestors by calling her Pocahontas, even though she wasn't there at the time, and whose ancestors weren't Navajo, and who doesn't even represent the state where these heroes live. And referring to her with a name of a Native woman whose story is not the whitewashed version that myths and Disney have created. He is like many racists who throw all Natives into the same category, Indians, even though each tribe is different.

I'm real sure all of his white supremacist supporters got the message, and are happy. But the rest of us got the message too; make no mistake. None of this was by accident.

Scott Burkhart 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Someone that would support Hillary Clinton for President has no business claiming any moral high ground, ever! Need I make a list for you?

Gary Stussie 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Check out One America News ... Pocahontas' direct ancestor says she does not mind President Trump using the name to expose Warren lying about her native ancestry. Warren is part of the Swamp ... she devised the bill that brought about the CFBP. She is claims a net worth of $16M ... which she made by flipping houses she acquired after foreclosure. Stay tuned, she is going down!

Greg Cooper 2 weeks, 1 day ago

So, let me get this straight: Warren lied so that make it OK for Chump to denigrate an entire racial segment. Got it. Warren used some pretty good business acumen to increase her wealth, just as your Regressives say it's supposed to be done, but she's wrong and Chump, the bankruptcy king of the universe, gets a pass, and an election. Got it.

When are you guys going to learn that "he did it so I can do something equally bad" is not a justification? By your thinking, anything goes at any time by anybody. Is that how you want your "leaders" to act?

Scott Burkhart 2 weeks ago

Greg, you are correct in making the statement that you cannot excuse bad behavior with further bad behavior. I would argue that leveling the name "Pocahantas" at someone, intending to mock their false claim that they rode to advance their career, is bad behavior in and of itself but does not denigrate a whole race of people. The mocking is the bad behavior. Using "Pocahantas" as a pejorative is not. Now, as far as the mocking goes. I like it. I could not care less if you, Elizabeth Warren, or any other lib get b*tt hurt over it. It's all a toxic mess in Washington D.C. with everyone trying to grab the moral high ground. None of them are exempt from severe criticism. They lie, cheat, rape, molest, and harass. Now we are finding out that ALL of these smug commentators on their smug, holier than thou networks are no better than the people they've been attacking, mercilessly.

Gary Stussie 2 weeks ago

" pretty good business acumen to increase her wealth" ... business acumen or insider information?

Michael Kort 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Compromise might be essential to democracy by the Republicans have blown off the Democrats through out their crafting of their tax cut bills in both chambers of the Congress .

Of course Trump wants to meet with Democratic leaders because he wants the photo op to pretend that the Democrats were consulted about the Republicans great tax cut bill that he has no part in drafting as he is neither a member of the House or the Senate, which most Republicans don't or wouldn't want to get their heads around .

The party of OPTICS, unreality tv and openly courting foreign governments from the campaign trail stage ( TRUMP DID THAT ON NATIONAL TV AND IT IS ON TAPE ) to help them out, with election sabatoge campaign optics .

Trump may build his wall but it will be the wall that keeps Republicans in when his party gets around to killing the economy or the government ( take your pick ) .

Venezuela is in formal international default on its' debts that are tied to derivatives tied to more derivatives tied to their oil production which is why Trump was recently off gassing about the US becoming militarily involved in that country,...............on behalf of which bank ?..... or group of bankers ?......or do we go in to protect Chinese or Russian interests there from the Venezuelan peasants ?

Notice the Saudis cutting back their production of oil to raise the price of crude........too little and too late for their OPEC buddies in Venezuela .

Now Trump has retweeted a video from a racist, far right radical British group. He is sending a lot of messages to his White Supremacist supporters this week. He's telling them that he is still one of them.

Richard ... appears you have not noticed that DEMS are drowning in a sea of scandal. Minorities are realizing that 40 years of supporting the Democratic party has gotten them nothing but dependence. Women are realizing that the real War on Women is from the left. As General Patton once said ..."Politicians are the lowest form of life on earth. Liberal Democrats are the lowest form of politicians."

Richard Heckler 1 week, 5 days ago

In his first month in office, President Obama signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. The Ledbetter Act responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling that Lilly Ledbetter, a supervisor at a Goodyear Tire plant, couldn’t sue her employer for two decades of pay discrimination because, they said, the 180-day window to file her discrimination claim began when her employers set her salary illegally, rather than each time she got a paycheck — meaning that by the time she discovered the pay discrimination she was out of luck.

The Ledbetter Act tweaked federal equal pay law to make it clear that the statute of limitations clock started each time a woman received a discriminatory paycheck. It was opposed by powerful corporate groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and by the majority of Republicans in the House and Senate.

But the passage of the Ledbetter Act didn’t end right-wing attacks on equal pay laws. It only made them more aggressive in overturning them. Most states have laws that create easier and less-costly state-level channels for confronting pay discrimination. One such law, passed in Wisconsin in 2009, was just repealed in April 2012 by the Republican-controlled Wisconsin state legislature and and was signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker.

Explaining the decision, Wisconsin Sen. Glenn Grothman said, “You could argue that money is more important for men. I think a guy in their first job, maybe because they expect to be a breadwinner someday, may be a little more money-conscious. To attribute everything to a so-called bias in the workplace is just not true.”

Women in Wisconsin still make only 75 cents to every dollar made by men. Nationally, women make 77 cents to the dollar.

Richard Heckler 1 week, 5 days ago

In 2011, Republicans in Congress set out to do what Texas is doing on a national scale, by eliminating funding to Title X, the 40-year-old federal program dedicated to improving access to family planning assistance.

Title X not only benefits women’s health, but also helps the government save billions of dollars each year in Medicaid spending by reducing unintended pregnancies. In 2008, Title X was critical in supporting 4,500 clinics that served approximately five million women and men.

The Title X program was signed into law by President Richard Nixon and sponsored by then-Congressman George H. W. Bush. But for the modern Republican Party, shutting it down has become an ideological imperative.

In early 2011, the powerful Republican Study Committee unveiled a plan to completely eliminate funding for Title X. Republican leaders quickly embraced the plan, along with a plan to end funding to Planned Parenthood. Pro-corporate organizations including Americans for Tax Reform and Americans for Prosperity allied with Religious Right groups like the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America to demand Republicans defund Planned Parenthood and eliminate Title X.

These weren’t idle threats. In February 2011, the House of Representatives, newly dominated by the Tea Party arm of the GOP, passed a budget that defunded Title X and cut all funding to Planned Parenthood. Faced with opposition from President Obama and the Senate, House Republicans threatened to shut down the federal government if they didn’t get their way in stopping clinics from providing contraceptives and preventative health screenings. Ultimately, facing mounting public backlash, they backed down.

But House Republicans didn’t stop there. In early 2012, Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla, launched a congressional inquiry into Planned Parenthood based on a discredited “investigation” by the antichoice group Live Action. Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee also asked Speaker John Boehner to hold formal hearings to investigate Planned Parenthood’s use of federal dollars based on allegations by Religious Right organizations the Alliance Defense Fund and the Susan B. Anthony List.

While the Republicans’ plan to end Planned Parenthood’s financing was defeated in Congress, many GOP-controlled state legislatures took up the strategy and voted to defund or partially defund Planned Parenthood in states including Indiana, Kansas, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas and Wisconsin.

5 ways The Assault Is Way More Than On Abortion

Republicans are having a tough time shaking the "war on women" label, probably because they can't stop themselves from sounding -- and voting -- like a bunch of raging misogynists.

But when they do try to deflect this particular brand of sexism, it usually goes something like, "[Women are] more than just a set of reproductive organs, and I’d like someone to talk to me about how they’ll help my pocketbook and keep my health care plan that I like."

Despite evidence to suggest that plenty of Republicans very much view women as a set of reproductive organs, this is verbatim what a Republican strategist told the New York Times last week in an attempt to challenge the idea that the GOP is a party of caveman bigots.

It's also what Mike Huckabee tried to communicate when he argued that the GOP opposes insurance coverage for contraception because it trusts that women can "control their libidos."

Rand Paul -- a man who a majority of conservative tastemakers believe should be the next president -- views the GOP's problem with women as something of a nonstarter, mainly because there are lots of them enrolled in his niece's veterinary program.
