Letter to the editor: Don’t drop Pitts

To the editor:

A recent letter to the editor urged the Journal-World to drop the columns of Leonard Pitts. I would like to respectfully disagree. I find Mr. Pitts’ writing informed and insightful. While some might disagree with his perspective and style, I don’t think the Journal-World shows a bias in running his columns. In fact, the paper provides a variety of viewpoints in its opinion columns from across the political spectrum. I don’t agree with some of them, but I find it useful to read almost all of them.

Whether we agree or not and even if it may make us uncomfortable, a variety of opinions presents perspectives that we need to be aware of and perhaps information that we need to hear. In that way, we become informed about the society and world in which we live.
