Letter to the editor: Good police work

To the editor:

Upon rereading the May 21 article, “Affidavit details armed standoff with police, allegations of gunshots, threats, animal abuse,” I would like to commend Lawrence police officers for their thoughtful handling of an especially tense situation that involved an armed, agitated, possibly suicidal veteran who, reportedly, had been taking pot shots at his neighbors’ houses.

After a seven-and-a-half-hour standoff, the veteran, who reportedly had long struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder and who had recently learned of the deaths of two close friends, gave up without incident.

Someone deserves a medal.
