Letter to the editor: More on Baker

To the editor:

Fall is right around the corner and the season looks different for everyone. For the Lawrence Journal-World, fall is a time to cover as many activities, sports especially, as possible throughout the surrounding areas. However, the Journal-World should do a better job of covering the Baker University football program.

Last fall Baker University played for the NAIA National Championship game in Daytona Beach, Fla. With a record of 14-1, the Baker Wildcats received numerous accolades that should not go unnoticed. The variety of accomplishments included winning the Heart of America Conference, NAIA Regional Coach of the Year, NAIA National Player of the Year, 23 All-Conference Awards, and seven NAIA Scholar-Athletes, including an Academic All-American.

After searching on the Journal-World sports page under Baker athletics specifically, one would assume these prestigious awards would appear at the top of the page, but that was not the case.

I am aware that Lawrence is filled with tremendous academic and athletic success on all levels. Baker University is proud of the students who have come from high schools around the area, and many of those student-athletes have contributed to the success both on and off the football field. With that being said, I look forward to seeing more publicity this fall regarding the Baker football program and the success both on and off the field that the 2017 season has in store.
