KU junior Devonte’ Graham named to Jerry West watch list

Kansas guard Devonte' Graham (4) signals with an official the ball going the Jayhawks' way after forcing a turnover by TCU guard Chauncey Collins, back, during the second half, Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at Schollmaier Arena in Forth Worth, Texas. At left is Kansas forward Jamari Traylor (31).

A day after seeing teammate Frank Mason named to the Bob Cousy Award watch list, Kansas junior Devonte’ Graham found his name on a similar list.

Wednesday, the organization that runs the Jerry West Award, given annually to the best shooting guard in college basketball, revealed that Graham was one of 20 players added to this year’s watch list.

The KU junior is the lone Big 12 player on the list and he is joined by marquee names like Grayson Allen (Duke), Allonzo Trier (Arizona) and Malik Monk (Kentucky), among others.

Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, who had a couple of memorable battles with Graham during the 2015-16 season, won the award last season.

Big 12 attendees

The Big 12 Conference on Wednesday released the names of the various players who will head to Kansas City on Tuesday for the annual Big 12 media day.

KU coach Bill Self will be joined by seniors Frank Mason III and Landen Lucas, junior Devonte’ Graham and freshman Josh Jackson.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and will include coaches from all 10 Big 12 programs — including newcomers Jamie Dixon (TCU), Chris Beard (Texas Tech) and Brad Underwood (Oklahoma State) — as well as more than 30 players from the various programs.

Waters to Georgetown

After finishing up official visits to Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky, Tremont Waters, a 5-foot-11, 160-pound point guard from West Haven, Connecticut, on Wednesday orally committed to join John Thompson III’s Hoyas program.

The four-star prospect, according to Rivals.com was ranked No. 36 in the 2017 Class.

Despite losing out on Waters, who visited KU for Late Night, the Jayhawks remain involved with a few five-star point guards in the 2017 class, including No. 7-ranked Collin Sexton, whom KU coaches Self and Norm Roberts checked in with in Georgia last weekend, according to TheShiver.com. Sexton has said he plans to make a decision in late October or early November.

KU also is still alive for Norman, Oklahoma, point guard Trae Young, Rivals.com’s No. 14-ranked player, who will make his official visit to Kansas this weekend.
