Letter to the editor: Keep court promise

To the editor:

What is wrong with the Lawrence City Commission? Has it learned nothing from its past mistakes? We have a recreation center that was shoved down our throats. It was built after a no-bid process with the money of Lawrence residents. We obviously cannot afford it and now city officials want to take away the open-court policy that was promised when the facility was built. (One court would remain open for general play by the public at all times.) Apparently it is more important that players from out of town get to use it. Why are residents expected to pay for something we didnt even ask for? The City Commission approved it, so why not let them pay for it?

Does the $20 million library make money? Does our new police station make money? Oh, I forgot, we built a recreation center instead of a police station. City commissioners, why don’t you just give us the court we were promised and quit making excuses? Accountability is obviously not high on your list.
