Letter: Climate action

To the editor:

If you have ever thought about becoming involved in the climate issue, there is no better time than now.  In his address to a joint session of Congress Thursday morning, Pope Francis cited part of his encyclical, “We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all.”

He went on to call for a “courageous and responsible effort to redirect our steps and to avert the most serious effects of the environmental deterioration caused by human activity.” Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL), which was instrumental in supporting the recently announced congressional resolution sponsored by ten Republican House members to address climate change, strives to advance this conversation.

The Lawrence Chapter of CCL is hosting a community open house and presentation in the Lawrence Public Library auditorium this Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon, to share our solution to climate change and provide opportunities for area citizens to take meaningful action. We hope you will join us in our effort to create the political will for our leaders to act on this important issue.
