Letter: Kasold savings

To the editor:

Roundabouts keep traffic moving instead of having cars stop, which will make the new system function far more efficiently, thus moving more cars per hour. Roundabouts save gas, thus less air pollution, and will save time.

The Kasold/Harvard intersection is large enough to provide a practical-size roundabout. How many times have drivers stopped at this intersection when no other cars were there? Once or twice a week is too many.

Kasold is not busy enough 24/7 to justify four lanes of road. Substantial new residential growth is through in the area Kasold is serving thus no new significant traffic will be flowing. When the SLT is finished, other traffic will be pulled from Kasold.

Considering the Brownback administration is killing our economy, saving a million tax dollars has become a collectors’ item. People from Lawrence will continue to lose jobs with no job replacements in sight. Getting more from an existing resource in addition to saving a million tax dollars is fiscally responsible. No one knows how safe our jobs are so we best start saving a million tax dollars anyway we can while getting more for our money.

Next time a four-lane road project surfaces, research the efficiency and practicality of a three-lane road.
