Letter: Arterial streets

To the editor:

One of the basic principles of traffic engineering is to keep traffic on the arterial street system, which is designed to carry traffic. Traffic engineers do not want to encourage traffic to cut through neighborhoods on collector or local streets.

Kasold is a main north-south arterial street in Lawrence. The “road dieting” concept has been implemented on Princeton, which is a collector street.  However, it does not make sense to me to decrease the vehicle carrying capacity on Kasold.
