Letter: Staff praise

To the editor:

Last week, as I usually do, I was walking laps with my friend at the Sports Pavilion. We have really enjoyed taking our outdoor walking routine indoors at this new and pristine facility, particularly during the winter months. There is a very friendly attitude among the staff, and between 7 and 8 a.m., many exercisers are taking advantage of the facility.

As we rounded a corner, I turned briefly to wave at some friends when my foot took a misstep and I quickly landed flat on my face on the track. Well, first one thinks, “How embarrassing!” Then, to my amazement, not only did friends and acquaintances rally around, but the staff at the facility were there immediately! They instructed me on how to recover and helped me stand carefully and safely. Another early morning exerciser identified himself as a doctor and helped me to a chair, requested ice, which staff provided to stop the bleeding, checked my bloody nose and suggested my next “step” if the bleeding didn’t stop.

Well, all is well! Nothing is broken, and I feel lucky to come away from the incident with just some ugly purple bruises that change in color and size each day!

So kudos to all who helped me that morning, but particularly to the kind and caring staff who were so thoughtful, and professional, paying great attention to detail. We are very fortunate to live in Lawrence, Kansas.
