Letter: Trouble out west

Regarding Doug Burger’s letter (July 3) about Kansas and moving to California, I hope he has truly investigated California before he spends money to move here.

If he has truly looked into California then he knows we have the highest income tax rates in the U.S. and the highest gas tax with almost the worst highway maintenance, a huge illegal population that is constantly being let out of jail due to California courts feeling sorry for the offenders, sanctuary cities such as San Francisco (which is certainly in the news now due to the murder) and Los Angeles. The alleged murderer spent 15 years in jail was deported five times, each time returning.

We are in a terrible drought and where I live all the green lawns are supposed to become brown. Instead of building dams and using other water storage ideas, the Democratic-controlled Legislature for years has protected fish in the rivers rather than giving water to farmers.

The state is now going to spend $60 billion to build a fast train to nowhere (from San Francisco to Los Angeles through the San Joaquin valley) instead of using the money to solve water problems and highway maintenance.

If Mr. Burger truly understands California, then he is just the voter that the California Democratic Party wants. He won’t be getting away from “Brownbackistan” because our governor is Jerry Brown.
