Kansas University junior Perry Ellis, who entered Saturday’s 86-54 win over Texas Tech five of 19 from three (26.3 percent), hit three threes in as many tries and scored 15 points.

“I’ve been shooting a lot, trying to get a lot of shots up,” Ellis said. “Those threes are in the flow. I try to go through offense. When they are open, I’ll take the shot. I happened to knock them down.

“I didn’t let it get to me,” Ellis said of a recent scoring slump that had him totaling single digits in three of five games. “You’ve got to come the next day to practice, keep shooting and you get past it.”

Of Ellis’ performance in 22 minutes, KU coach Bill Self said: “Perry is not playing like he’s capable of playing. It was good to see the lid come off for him and the ball go in the hole (5-of-7 shooting). He did some good things without question.

“He can be more active. Making threes is good. It’s not what will win us games in tough games on the road. He will have to get a basket down tight. But we know he has the talent to do so. Today was a good step, the lid came off,” Self added.
