Notebook: Christian Garrett scores first career basket

Senior Kansas University guard Christian Garrett scored the first points of his college career Saturday, late in the Jayhawks’ 86-54 win over Texas Tech at Allen Fieldhouse.
The 6-foot-4 guard from Los Angeles got his first official bucket on a strong drive through the lane with 1:56 left.
“Christian scored his first points today and Evan (Manning, fellow walk-on) hit a big three. It was fun to have everybody out there and get a chance to contribute,” KU coach Bill Self said.
In all, 13 players scored, the most since 15 scored against Tech on March 3, 2008.
This, that: KU is 13-2 or better for the second time in the past three seasons and the seventh time in Self’s s 12 seasons at KU. … KU is 2-0 in the league for the ninth-straight season and the 11th time under Self. … KU is 28-4 versus Tech. The Jayhawks have won 11 straight in the series and are 15-0 in Allen. … KU has won 16 in a row overall in Allen and is 182-9 at home under Self. … KU is 6-0 vs. Tubby Smith-coached teams in the Self era. … KU set season-bests in defensive rebounds (33), assists (24) and steals (12). … The 12 steals were most in a game since 12 against Tech in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals on March 13, 2013. … Frank Mason III’s 10 points extended his double-digit scoring streak to 12-straight games. KU’s longest double-digit scoring streak a year ago belonged to Andrew Wiggins (eight games) and Mason is now trying to catch Ben McLemore’s streak of 13-straight in 2012-13. … Mason has 33 assists to 11 turnovers over the last six games. … Kelly Oubre Jr. went 2-of-3 from three, raising his percentage from beyond the arc to 56 percent (14-of-25) over his last seven outings. This after Oubre, Jr., was 2-of-7 in his first eight games.
