Letter: ACA coverage

To the editor:

As a 23-year-old law student, I barely remember to eat and sleep, let alone have time to fret over what happens when I get sick. The Affordable Care Act makes certain that I don’t have to stress about whether I have access to health insurance.

Not all my peers are enrolled under the ACA, meaning they may not have access to affordable health insurance. As a proponent of social justice, it is my duty to make sure my generation gets the coverage they need. Access to affordable health care benefits the entire community, ensuring healthy young people can contribute to society by focusing on education and starting careers.

For those of us without access to our parents’ health plans, the ACA allows us the independence to enroll ourselves. If we stay on our parents’ insurance, the ACA covers us until we are 26, a relief when not all jobs offer health insurance upon graduation. The ACA also covers the full range of birth control methods without a copay.

If you are without insurance, don’t fret. The enrollment period is open until Feb. 15. You can learn more about your options for enrollment by visiting www.insureks.org.
