Letter: Political tragedy

Only three times in modern history has America been faced with a serious foreign threat: the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Cuban missile crises in 1962, and the 9/11 attack in 2001. In each case, the American people did the right thing. They rallied behind the president in solidarity with our friends around the world.

Fred Whitehead’s assertion (Public Forum, Dec. 9) that ISIS is “an enemy as dangerous, even more so than the Third Reich” is utter nonsense. If it were a threat of that magnitude, we would not see all of this fear mongering by cynical politicians who are treating the tragic event in San Bernadino as what it has become: a political opportunity.
