Lawrence High’s Bledsoe wins Buchanan award

Lawrence High football standout Amani Bledsoe picked up another postseason honor Tuesday, earning the Buck Buchanan Memorial Award, which is presented to the best large-school lineman/linebacker in the Kansas City metro area.

Bledsoe, who was named the Sunflower League’s Andre Maloney Most Valuable Player, had 89 tackles and 11 sacks to help the Lions to a 10-1 record this season, including the school’s first league title since 1993.

Bledsoe is the fourth LHS player to win the Buchanan Award, along with James Myers (1993), Nate Williams (’94) and Lee Myers (’95).

The Buchanan Award is named for the former Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame player who died in 1992.
