Letter: Shining examples?

To the editor:

With regard to the article on rural gun noise, I was shooting for a higher target. Gov. Brownback and his current Legislature have moved the political pendulum far to the right with a plethora of new laws, and accompanying mores.

Our schools: Once a point of pride, they are now a political money target, ripe for the picking. Our teachers: Guilty as charged for whatever ails the system, but, as proposed, let’s arm them to protect our children and really get our money’s worth.

Our health: The Affordable Care Act is alive and working and bringing a true positive difference to millions in this nation. Visit Osawatomie State Hospital and tell me KanCare is working. Our taxes: When any entity pays no taxes, others have to. But not Kansas business owners. And today’s exempt farmers are not ma and pa on 40 acres but corporate farm conglomerates with huge holdings. Our E.P.A.: Created solely for the protection of the planet from the misdeeds of the greedy, what a scapegoat it’s become.

Finally, our guns. It’s OK to own as many as you like. It’s OK to own nearly anything any gun manufacturer makes. It’s OK to open carry. It’s OK to conceal carry. It’s OK without mandatory training. It’s OK to shoot anything and everything from early morning to late at night with no noise restrictions. And it’s OK to buy guns and ammo if you are on welfare, just not movie theater tickets.

Thank you, governor, for the “shining sun” on the falling horizon.
