Letter: Juvenile ads

To the editor:

I am amazed at the juvenile attitude Republican candidates create with their wonderfully informative (tongue in cheek) campaign ads. Take the ads supporting Sen. Pat Roberts.

Look at the contents. The ads are composed primarily of name calling which includes all of the ultra-conservative “hot words” like liberal, tax and spend, Obama supporter, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

Next we have the “scary words’ like national socialism, increased taxes, and less Medicare benefits. Nowhere in his ads does he mention his ideas to deal with the issues of the day, or legislation offered to benefit Kansans. What is his plan to deal with the problems of medical costs? All he talks about is repealing the ACA and offers absolutely no alternative. Senator, the Affordable Care Act is working. That horse has left the barn.

Roberts’ ads aren’t working, because he’s calling in the Republican heavy hitters to campaign for him. Roberts is barely a resident of Kansas and yet seeks help from politicians outside of Kansas including his new campaign staff. Folks, Roberts doesn’t even bank in Kansas anymore.

Kansans it is time to put an end to juvenile campaigning and require a higher standard for those who seek our trust. It is not enough anymore to say “it’s just politics.” We are adults and deserve better and should demand better from those who seek to be our leaders.
