Lee’s Summit, Mo. ? Free State High’s volleyball team won one of five matches Saturday in the Mo-Kan Tournament at Lee’s Summit West.

The Firebirds defeated Shawnee Mission East, 25-13, 25-12, and fell to Blue Springs, 25-20, 25-23; Overland Park Aquinas, 25-17, 25-20; Lee’s Summit West, 25-17, 25-17; and Carl Junction, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21.

FSHS was led by Lauren Johnson with 47 assists, Emma Barbarena with 16 kills, Naomi Hickman with 16 kills, Payton Gannaway with 15 kills, Sydney Moreano with15 kills and Paige Corcoran with 30 digs.

“We like going to this tournament because the level of competition is high,” FSHS coach Nancy Hopkins said.
