Letter: Gun sense

To the editor:

I am deeply concerned about the number of children who are victims of gun violence in this country. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is working to prevent this kind of tragedy by electing officials who support laws that keep children from accessing unsecured guns.

Twenty-eight states plus the District of Columbia have some kind of law on the books that holds gun owners responsible if children access their guns. Kansas is NOT one of those states. It is critical that we elect officials who support laws that prevent children from accessing unsecured handguns. Child Access Prevention laws do reduce the number of firearm deaths and injuries.

It is up to all of us – gun owners and non-gun owners alike — to do our part. Sensible measures that deter irresponsible gun storage can both respect the rights of lawful gun owners while protecting our children. Vote to keep guns out of the wrong hands, especially our children’s hands.
