Free State High’s boys soccer team beat Lawrence High a few weeks ago, but the next City Showdown will have much higher stakes.

The Firebirds (8-7-1) earned a No. 9 seed in the Class 6A Northeast regional, and will go on the road to face the eighth-seeded Lions (8-6-2) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at LHS in the first round of regionals.

The winner of the City Showdown rematch will face top-seeded Olathe East (15-1) at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the CBAC in Olathe to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Ottawa High (13-2-1) and Tonganoxie (12-3-1) earned the top-seeds in their respective regions in Class 4-1A, while Baldwin (12-2-2) picked up the No. 2 seed in the 4-1A East region, and De Soto (10-4-2) is the No. 3 seed in the Northeast region.
