Letter: Housing option

To the editor:

Looks like my children’s alma mater is going to spend $51 million to house 500 students. Should be pretty nice digs for future KU students. But, look at the math: The proposed cost divided by 500 comes to $102,000 per student. Why not build 500 simple two-bedroom boxy ranch houses at about $100,000 each? Use the extra $2,000 per student ($100,000) for cooktop ranges, dishwashers, etc., or toward the land purchase. Perhaps get a few donations for a super clubhouse/rec center and VOILA, a nice new neighborhood that wouldn’t require a two-acre parking lot! Just an idea.
