Lawrence police: No news yet on Kappa Sigma investigation

Six weeks after allegations of multiple instances of sexual misconduct at a Kappa Sigma fraternity party surfaced, police have given no updates on the progress of the investigation.

Lawrence Police Department spokesman Sgt. Trent McKinley said Thursday that investigators “don’t have any updates for release,” and that he did not know when the case might be forwarded to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

“At this point, nearly every detective is working on the current homicide investigation, which does impact the timelines of other cases being investigated,” McKinley said, referring to the investigation of a suspicious death at Cedarwood apartments last weekend.

Kansas University suspended the fraternity. The police department and KU are conducting separate investigations into the sexual assault allegations.
