Lawrence police have released more details on a Thursday evening crash that left one driver with life-threatening injuries.

At around 5:30 p.m., Chaitra Ford, 30, of Lawrence, was westbound on 27th Street near Sawgrass Drive when she drove into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle driven by Dawn Ready, 49, of Iola. Ford was seriously injured and was taken by helicopter to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. No condition report is available. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Ready and her three passengers, including two children, were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All of them were wearing seat belts.

Police suspect that Ford may have been impaired and collected a blood sample to send to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation laboratory for analysis.
