To the editor:

During April and May, the League of Women Voters of Lawrence/Douglas County registered students at five Douglas County high schools: Baldwin High, Bishop Seabury High, Eudora High, Free State High and Lawrence High. We turned in 177 voter application forms to the Douglas County clerk.

We congratulate Baldwin High for achieving the highest percentage of applications and for allowing us in their senior classrooms, where we registered over 70 percent of their seniors.

We thank staff, who went beyond their duties, and students for assistance and participation and we look forward to making this an annual event. We encourage all citizens to educate themselves on the issues and candidates’ positions and vote.
