KU English professor named acting vice provost of faculty development

Marta Caminero-Santangelo is a Kansas University professor of English. She has been named acting vice provost for faculty development beginning May 19.

Kansas University named English professor Marta Caminero-Santangelo as acting vice provost for faculty development, effective May 19, the university announced Thursday.

She will fill in for Mary Lee Hummert, who will temporarily leave the position to serve as interim vice chancellor of research. Steve Warren, who has been head of research at KU since 2007, will step down after this semester to focus on research and teaching.

Caminero-Santangelo joined KU in 1997 and became full professor in 2009. She served as chair of the English department from 2009-12 and last fall was a finalist for the position of dean of graduate studies.

She has been named a KU Woman of Distinction by the Emily Taylor Center for Women & Gender Equity, and in 2008 she received a Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence.

As vice provost for faculty development, Caminero-Santangelo will oversee faculty programs and policies, including faculty appointments and orientation, promotion and tenure, and sabbatical leave.
