Letter: Healthy eating

To the editor:

I applaud your informative WellCommons website and articles promoting community health initiatives, but am dismayed at many of the recipes you print in your newspaper that completely contradict those efforts.

Today you published a recipe for “tin-can tortilla soup,” which likely contains several days’ worth of sodium at a single meal. Also, your recent article about where to dine for healthy meals focused only on lower-calorie offerings, ignoring the more insidious threat to health found in overly salted foods, a common problem when dining out.

It would be a real public service if you could more regularly feature articles about Lawrence restaurants with options for people with dietary restrictions and those desirous of more healthy, not only low-calorie, options, and good-tasting, truly healthy recipes (like those in articles by Sarah Henning and widely available elsewhere on the Internet).
