The April 26 Saturday Column was excellent in that it recognized several dedicated Kansas University leaders. It is very rewarding when a leader can be humble and dedicated. My acquaintances Del Shankel and Dave Ambler are both an inspiration. A “hello” and sincere smile from Del Shankel can make your day!

Dave Ambler, though retired from KU, is truly a dedicated member of the Lawrence Noon Rotary Club. Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” truly fits Ambler. His heart and soul is in the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum. The arboretum is a gift for all of us. It serves by giving us the beauty of nature, a place of solace, peace and self-renewal. Again, it’s free. Stroll through it; enjoy.
