Letter: KU fee decision

To the editor:

I welcome Kansas University’s Student Senate decision to end the $25-per-semester fee to help fund the athletic department.

The fact that our public-funded university rarely shows KU basketball games on the public airwaves has got to play a role in this decision by the KU Student Senate. Most students are not old enough to go to the bars and watch the games. I’m not sure this is an activity the university should encourage. To watch at home requires high-end cable at $70 a month.

I guess with the extra $50 a year, students can buy a radio. Maybe income inequality is even showing up among our wealthy KU student body.

KU Athletics should talk to major league baseball about the down side of leaving the public airwaves.
