Letter: Ossified thinking
To the editor:
I read with great interest on Friday morning about the new addition to the Kansas Statehouse: a 17 foot juvenile mosasaur hanging on the wall in Gov. Brownback’s ceremonial office. Though I understand the geological and paleontological significance of the marine fossil, I couldn’t help but think of its apt symbolic meaning to the state of Kansas as our Legislature seems to make decisions based on ossified premises with pre-historic enlightenment. I am now waiting for the next batch of tea-partiers to claim the fossils are not as old as the scientists claim them to be and that they shared the earth with human beings.
