Psychology professor Stephen Ilardi chosen as KU’s 2014 HOPE Award winner

Kansas University’s senior class has chosen Stephen Ilardi, an associate professor in clinical psychology, as the recipient of the 2014 HOPE Award.

Ilardi “instructs his students with high energy and enthusiasm, and has a passion for connecting with students,” reads a statement from the KU Board of Class Officers. Now in his 17th year at the university, Ilardi is currently investigating a successful treatment of depression.

The Honor for an Outstanding Progressive Educator Award, created in 1959, annually recognizes an “outstanding” professor selected by KU students. Nominees are submitted by senior students and then voted on by the entire senior class.

Other finalists for this year’s award include: Robert Antonio, professor in sociology; Kerry Benson, lecturer in journalism; Wallace J. Meyer Jr., director of entrepreneurship programs and lecturer in business; and Derek Reed, assistant professor in applied behavioral science.
