City track stars earn All-Sunflower League honors

Many city track and field athletes picked up All-Sunflower League recognition for their performances this spring.

Bailey Sullivan (1,600), Alexa Harmon-Thomas (100 hurdles), Claire Sanner (3,200), Kiara Clark (300 hurdles) and Scout Wiebe (javelin) picked up first team honors in those events for Free State’s girls team, while Sullivan (800), Gabbi Dabney (100 hurdles) and Emily Venters (1600 and 3,200) were placed on the second team.

Dabney (high jump), Venters (800), Harmon-Thomas (300 hurdles) and Clark (100 hurdles) all earned honorable mentions in those events.

For the Lawrence High girls, Matia Finley (discus), Kyleigh Severa (long jump), and the 4×400 relay team (Severa, Myah Yoder, Marissa Pope and Jensen Edwards) earned first-team recognition.

LHS’s Rebecca Finley (discus) and Edwards (400) were placed on the second team, while Rebecca Finley (shot put), Matia Finley (shot put), Caroline Dykes (javelin) and the 4×100 relay team earned honorable mentions.

On the boys side, Free State’s Trevor Hillis (pole vault) and Stan Skwarlo (800) made the first team while the Firebirds’ 4×100 relay was placed on the second team.

FSHS’ Lucas Werner (javelin), Ryan Liston (3,200) and 4×800 relay team, along with LHS’ Amani Bledsoe (shot put), Tae Shorter (triple jump), Logan Shields (high jump) and Dearion Cooper (110 hurdles), were honorable mention.
