Three people injured in four-vehicle accident east of Lawrence

Three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Douglas County on Saturday afternoon.

At around 1:15 p.m., a 1999 Dodge Stratus driven by Kaylee L. Trieb, 17, of Tonganoxie, was northbound on Highway 24 near East 1700 Road, three miles east of Lawrence, when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound 1989 Chevrolet Blazer driven by James L. Cox, 57, of Lawrence, which left the roadway and rolled, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

A southbound 2011 Nissan Altima driven by Kathryn A. Wecker, 21, of Tonganoxie, tried to avoid the Dodge but collided with it anyway in the northbound lane.

A southbound 1996 Ford Ranger driven by Matthew C. Vossler, 29, of Tonganoxie, avoided contacting any of the vehicles but ended up in the west ditch.

Trieb was transported to Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka, while Cox and Wecker were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, to be treated for their injuries. All three were treated and released, the hospitals reported.

All four drivers and two passengers were wearing seat belts.
