Letter: He’s no Lincoln

To the editor:

Abe Lincoln, the grand old man of the GOP, said, “You can fool some of the people all the time…” etc.

While Gov. Brownback is in Washington boasting about cutting taxes to create “the Kansas Miracle,” (American Speculator, May 30), those of us enduring that miracle know that he has, in fact, raised taxes on the most vulnerable Kansans. He reneged on the promised termination of the “temporary” increase in sales taxes, which are inherently regressive. He eliminated the state earned income tax at the expense of the working poor. In another front of the War on the Poor, he arbitrarily denied Medicaid to several hundred thousand Kansans, when it would have cost the state nothing for three years.

Does he really think he can fool all the Kansans all the time?
