To the editor:

We’ve got some great kids in Lawrence. Like many others, we had some severe tree damage in our yard due to the wind storm last week. Early the following morning, my teenage daughter wanted to show her friends this cool tree aberration, so “snap-chatted” a photo of one of our large trees lying across our lawn and driveway.

Within minutes, we had unsolicited offers of help to remove the tree and for the next several hours, three young men worked enthusiastically and tirelessly with us to saw, chop and haul it away. And to top it off, they adamantly and repeatedly refused payment for all their hard work. I felt guilty, like I was taking advantage of their generosity, but one of them said, “She is one of my best friends. Of course it is my obligation to help!”
