Letter: Views disputed

To the editor:

On June 27, the J-W had an impressive diversity of views on the Opinion Page. There was conservative George Will, counterbalanced by the ultraconservative Cal Thomas.

Will admired the tea party for its near-miss in Mississippi while ignoring the corrosive influence that radical faction has had on our national politics. The tea party that Will encourages is significantly funded by the Koch brothers although it purports to be a populist organization. It opposes all policies that benefit common folks, like raising the minimum wage and properly funding our schools.

Cal Thomas quotes a bizarre character named Steve Goddard and his misnamed blog Real Science to refute global warming. Only problem is Steve Goddard is not a climate scientist, he’s just a contrarian.

As 97 percent of the world’s climate scientists attest, global warming is real and happening now.

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a report in March 2014 stating that severe and pervasive effects of climate change will be felt everywhere in the world.

Will it take Miami, New Orleans and other cities getting swallowed by the sea to convince Republican pundits and politicians?

There is no debate. Let’s stop giving credibility to climate change deniers.
