Letter: Shelter help

To the editor:

It seems to me the Lawrence Community Shelter is going to always be asking for help with needs they have. The city needs to stop before it gets out of hand. When you buy property isn’t an inspection required? They need a roof in less than a year from purchase. They have grown and say they are already overcrowded.

I would like to know how many people are actually from Lawrence who need this place. A very small amount I believe. Most of the people there are from out of state with no connection to Lawrence. I know there are facilities in Kansas City and Topeka that can also care for the homeless. I have asked many of the residents of the shelter about the programs there. They say there are none. Is the public getting scammed?
