Letter: Related concern

To the editor:

Those whose anger has been directed against the Koch brothers’ donations to the Kansas University School of Business should also find energy for another investigation. Though, this investigation will consume much less energy and money. The facts are already public knowledge.

I urge the investigators to explore the relationship between the Peoples’ Republic of China’s funding of the Confucius Institute at KU and elsewhere. Since the Institute’s instructors are paid by the Chinese, would instructors dare criticize China’s horrifying human rights record or even mention the events in Tiananmen Square?  I doubt it.

I have little hope, however, that the passions of left-wing undergraduates will be directed at exposing the work of a left-wing tyranny at KU. Though I do find that lack of interest mystifying.
