Letter: Cracking response

To the editor:

Reading how our city inspectors found cracks in the cement at 23rd and Iowa, then demanded the construction company tear the cracked concrete out and reinstall new cement. Good job!

Now, if only the same determination was used for the new sports center.

When cracks were found and insufficient depth of pour (3 inches vs. 6 inches), the response was basically, “Oh, well.” The reason was they did not want to disturb the people using the center. How was this any different than the mess at 23rd and Iowa streets?

I think an independent audit should be made of overall construction and cost to ensure no graft or illegal activities.
