Lawrence High’s boys basketball team will open the season as the top-ranked team in Class 6A, picking up the No. 1 spot in the preseason poll by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association that was released Monday.

The Lions will play host to Emporia in their season-opener at 7 p.m. Friday.

After winning a state title last year, Eudora’s boys basketball team will open the year ranked No. 1 in Class 4A-I, while Ottawa High is No. 9, and Bishop Seabury is No. 7 in 2A.

Free State’s girls basketball team is ranked No. 10 in 6A, Ottawa’s girls basketball team is No. 4 in 4A-I and Baldwin is No. 9 in 4A-II.
