Man involved in crash with deputy’s vehicle continuing to receive treatment

A man continued to receive treatment Thursday after being hospitalized for a mental health evaluation following a crash Wednesday with a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, Lawrence Police Department spokesman Trent McKinley said Thursday.

Just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, the man allegedly drove his van into the vehicle of a sheriff’s deputy along the upper road across the Clinton Lake dam. Lt. Steve Lewis, a spokesman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, said Wednesday that the driver was injured and had been taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The deputy did not appear to be injured, he said.

The upper road across the dam was closed for about four hours Wednesday as officers investigated the scene.

The Douglas County district attorney has thus far not filed any charges in the case.
