A Kansas University alumnus has committed $25 million to the university and its alumni association.

The anonymous donor set aside 80 percent of the gift for the KU Alumni Association, the largest-ever gift to the organization.

The money will help fund the Alumni Association’s outreach programs, which include social events and programming for alumni and as well as new-student recruiting efforts.

The other 20 percent of the gift will be divided equally between scholarships and the Greater KU Fund.

KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said in a statement that the money would support future generations of KU students and help the university bring resources to KU’s top priorities.

The university said that the donor had received scholarship support while a student and “appreciated the education he received at KU.”

The gift, which was committed through the donor’s estate plans, was made through the KU Endowment and will count toward its eight-year campaign to raise $1.2 billion by 2016.
